CREMATION MEMORIALS WITH 25-YEAR TENURE


Soon, some cremation memorials with a 25-year tenure period begin to expire. These cremation memorials were purchased from 1 January 1984 onwards.

We now need your help.

25-YEAR TENURE & PERPETUITY EXPLAINED
All cremation memorials purchased at Fawkner Memorial Park prior to 1984 were sold in perpetuity (forever). Cremation memorials in perpetuity will be here for the life of our cemetery.

Following a Trust decision, we entered into cremation memorial tenure arrangements in 1984 - allowing for cremation memorials to be purchased in 25-year tenure periods.

From 1984 to 2005, all cremation memorials sold at Fawkner Memorial Park were with 25-year tenure. We did not sell cremation memorials in perpetuity during this period.

In 2005, following a change in the Cemeteries & Crematoria Act, we introduced perpetuity cremation memorials. We also established a conversion fee, for those who had purchased a cremation memorial with 25-year tenure and were looking to convert this into perpetuity.

Today when choosing a cremation memorial here at Fawkner Memorial Park, you have the choice of purchasing it with a 25-year tenure or buying it outright in perpetuity.


EXPIRING CREMATION MEMORIALS
If you are the holder of right of an expiring cremation memorial, you need to contact us to advise what you would like to do.

You have the option to:

1. Convert the cremation memorial to perpetuity* by paying the current fee
2. Extend the cremation memorial for a further 25-year tenure* period by paying the current fee
3. Remove the cremated remains and plaque, and place the remains in another cremation memorial in our park - by paying the current fee
4. Remove the cremated remains and plaque, and scatter the remains within our memorial park.
5. Remove the cremated remains and plaque for collection by you or a nominated representative

PERPETUITY MEANS FOREVER*
When transferring an expiring cremation memorial to perpetuity or extending it for a further 25-year tenure period, we recognise that at some stage we may need to renovate or completely rebuild areas due to deterioration.

Therefore, even a cremation memorial in perpetuity or 25-year tenure may need to be temporarily removed while maintenance is carried out or to allow redevelopment of an area.

Families can be secure in the knowledge that perpetual memorials will be preserved forever and that if significant infrastructure development is necessary, the memorial will be positioned in an equivalent or better position.
