|
Originally known as
the New Melbourne General Cemetery, Fawkner Crematorium & Memorial
Park conducted its first burial on 10 December 1906 from funeral directors,
John Allison of Sydney Road, Brunswick.
Dorothy Gladys Knapp, just 4 years and 11 months, was interred in
the new cemetery. Her little body kept in storage at Richmond since
her death on the 19th of August; awaiting the opening.

This historic
photo shows a substantial cortege of horse-drawn hearse and coaches
for what was both a tragic family event and a well-recorded moment
in history.
Draped in blue cloth and spangle lace, the first burial was made in
the Roman Catholic Area, Compartment A in the centre of lots 63 and
64. |
